The Jesus Dynasty:
Dr. James Tabor and the Origins of Christianity

This three week series examines the ideas presented in a new and controversial book on the origins of
Christianity by Dr. James Tabor, chair of religious studies at the University of North Carolina – Charlotte,
entitled The Jesus Dynasty. Arguing that Jesus must be understood in light of first century Judaism, he offers a
bold re-interpretation of the historical Jesus and his family, emphasizing the importance of James, Jesus’
brother and head of the Jerusalem church, and the radical innovations of the Apostle Paul. According to
Tabor, James championed a version of the faith quite different from Paul's, and, although James was more
faithful to Jesus' original teachings, Paul's Christianity won. Whether you agree with him in the end or not,
Tabor’s research will challenge you. Join us on this unique journey into the often surprising origins of the
Christian faith. All are welcome!
